I found the website of the lingerie shop where I bought my wedding underwear the other day and they were so wonderful I wanted to link it. If you're ever in York and in need of a bra, go and have a look! Heh, that might not be many people ever likely to read this blog, but you never know. Kathryn Rolfe actually runs the shop and does all the fittings herself, helped behind the counter by her mum. It's a really friendly place and Kathryn has been so helpful to me. Who knew underwear shopping could be so relaxing or so much fun? Of course, the wine probably helps...
This weekend we finally succeeded in choosing the bridesmaids' dresses for the wedding! My little sister is one of the bridesmaids and I wanted her to help me out with the choice, but she's been so busy lately it's taken several months to arrange for her to actually make the trip. However, last Saturday was the day of the mission at last! Her boyfriend was there too but he wisely decided to go for a walk around town while we were engrossed in dresses; however, Gift felt obliged as the groom to stay and participate (no, he didn't try any of them on...or I would have taken pics... ). So we spent a happy hour with my sister trying on lots of designs and thinking about colours and eventually came to a decision. We've chosen a dress from Dessy in a deep pink/mauve colour, which I think will go well with 1) the bridesmaids, 2) the general colour scheme of the flowers, 3) my dress. All the things you have to consider!
Here's a picture of the dress: looky and the colour you need to select is "smashing" - of course!
It's a relief to have made that decision! It was something of a blocade, preventing us from moving any further with hiring suits etc. for Gift, the best man and the ushers, or finalising the flowers, or buying shoes for the bridesmaids. Anyway, now that's done, I'm really starting to feel excited about the wedding again :).
I saw a VERY interesting video on youtube today. This idea could really bring something new to video gaming!
I guess I'm a bit behind the times, since he put that video up in December, but hey, I was excited, so I thought I'd share :D.
Ah, the weekend! It feels like coming up for air. I think I walk taller at weekends, heh. There are plenty of jobs worse than mine, but there's nothing like waking up in the morning and thinking, "I can lie here a little longer, there are no trains to catch today!"
On this particular weekend, we might go and see a film with a friend - I'll let you know how that goes. Probably the new Coen Brothers movie, if it's out here. Also..........I need to go shopping for wedding underwear!!! You might not realise this, but apparently it's important to wear the actual underwear you plan to wear on the great day when you go for a dress fitting, so the seamstress can make sure it won't show or something. Anyway, that could be fun :D. Giftmacher will not be allowed to peep at it, however!
Hello, all :).
So here we are in 2008! It's going to be a busy year for me, but a good one I hope. Giftmacher and I are getting married in the summer, which is very exciting! Preparations are going pretty well for that, and we've just started thinking about arranging our honeymoon in Thailand.
I have lots of work to do in the lab, but I'm feeling a bit more positive about it than I was. You never know, this might be the year I manage to get a first-author paper published! Heh, well I can dream, eh?
This will be our last full year in our lovely city, sadly, as the hunt for work will probably drag us out next year, but I'm going to enjoy it while we're here. I can't wait for spring and some sunshine at last. Rain is so last season!
